Let’s face it: getting ready to sell your home is no easy feat. You probably have a list of to-do’s that’s a mile long, and staging is one of those tasks that might seem impossible. Don’t worry—I have some easy home staging hacks that you can complete during a free afternoon. They’re simple, inexpensive, and will help get your home set to sell!
Call Your Agent
If you have absolutely no idea where to turn first, I have a home-staging hack you might not have considered. Your agent is a home-selling expert and would love to help you with their personal staging tips. Remember, it’s their job to help your home look its best to lure in potential buyers, so you don’t have to go it alone.
Your agent will know how to show off your home’s best features and conceal some of the aspects you may not be fond of. Just give them a call and set up a time for them to come to your home. They can draft up a quick list of fixes for you to make—it could be as easy as moving furniture or adding some decorations!
Tackle Some Yard Work
I get it—it can be tempting to ignore your lingering yard work, especially during the fall months. While nobody likes raking leaves, making sure your yard is well manicured can help you secure a sale. First impressions are everything, and just a few home-staging hacks can really boost your curb appeal.
Some of the easiest fixes you can make are mowing your lawn and pruning back all plants. If you’re lacking some landscaping, you may want to invest in some low-maintenance plants. Additionally, make sure all walkways are clear of debris so buyers can easily walk through. If you want to add a bit more flair, consider adding some seasonal decorations. Pumpkins look great in the fall and buyers love flowers in the spring!
Let the Light In
Believe it or not, natural light can sell a home. There’s a lot to be said for letting the light in—it can make rooms appear bigger and more welcoming. Buyers aren’t going to be attracted to a dark space, but even if you don’t have enough windows in a room, you can totally fake it with these home staging hacks.
If your room has windows and still appears dark, take a look at your window treatments. Removing heavy curtains and opening blinds can do wonders for a space. If the weather is nice, you may want to consider opening a window during a showing. If you have a room with no windows, adding lamps with high wattage bulbs can help your space seem brighter.
De-Personalize and Cut Back
Personal touches can make a house a home, but if you’re thinking about selling, it’s time to make some changes. While you may love your family photos and knick-knacks, they can prevent buyers from imagining themselves in your home. Get a head-start on packing by putting these objects away for later.
If you have a lot of clutter, you may want to consider having a yard sale. A cluttered home causes rooms to appear smaller than they actually are, and that’s the exact opposite of what you want if you’re selling. Take some time to go through things you don’t use anymore and decide if you want to sell, donate, or throw them away. This is a way to declutter quickly and easily!
